Then you need TrustFun!
File system security in NetWare can be confusing for even the most qualified engineer when you consider inheritance, rights filters, security equivalences, NDS assignments flowing into the file system, and backdoor methods of accessing the file system, especially if you have inherited a complicated network or portion of a network from someone else.
TrustFun™ is a Win32-based tool for performing a rights analysis on any file or directory on your network. TrustFun™ enumerates all users and objects that have any type of rights to the given file or directory and tells you how the user got those rights. This includes file system trustee assignments or NDS object trustee assignments, including so-called "backdoor" rights assignments that filter through NDS into the file system.
This release makes no changes to the tree so it is completely safe to run this code in your production tree.
Requirements
TrustFun™ is a Win32-based program that accesses both the NetWare file system and NDS to complete its analysis of the specified portion of the file system. There are no server components.
Therefore, the following are required to run TrustFun:
- Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, or 2000
- Novell Client for Windows (Client32)
NetWare Versions
TrustFun™ is supported on the following Novell NetWare environments:
- NetWare 4.11 support pack 6A and later
- NetWare 4.2 support pack 6A and later
- NetWare 5.1 base and later
- NetWare 4.10 with the latest patches will probably work but has not been tested.
NDS eDirectory Versions
TrustFun™ is supported with any version of NDS/eDirectory that is currently supported by Novell and shipped with the above NetWare service packs. AuditLogin has been tested with versions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8.5, 8.6 and 8.7 of NDS/eDirectory. Replicas may be stored on any platform supported by Novell.
NetWare Protocols
TrustFun™ is supported in the following NetWare communication environments:
- IPX only
- IP only
- Mixed IP and IPX
Windows Versions
TrustFun™ is supported on the following versions of Microsoft Windows:
- Windows '95B
- Windows '98
- Windows NT 4.0 at latest service pack.
- Windows 2000 at service pack 1 or later.
- Windows XP
